INCA User Day 2008 overview

The IPCOS INCA User Day was held on 10 June 2008 in the atomium of Brussels.  It was a very succesful event. New attendees came from Yokogawa, Aker Solutions, Q-Technologies, DSM, Stamicarbon,Solvay, Electrabel, Kaneka, etc

The INCA USER DAY started with a presentation by leon Ariaans (head of product development of IPCOS)  on the new features of INCA Suite. Traditionally IPCOS releases at the INCA User Day the new release of the IPCOS toolset INCA. On june 10th Version 8.1 was introduced.

Sven Konhke (Production manager from Yara Brunsbuttel) explained the results of the APC project on the urea plant and the related benefits. In this application the INCA controller not only pushes the plant towards its maximum capacity in steady state but also speeds up the ramping of the plant from half load to full load conditions.

CYTEC has teamed up with IPCOS during the early installs of the INCA MPC4Batch technology. Considerable benefits have been shown on the CYTEC polyacrylate process. Jan de Wilde, Automation Team Leader for the CYTEC Drogenbos site, explained the technical achievements and project outcome. A consistent batch control, together with a considerable cycle time reduction has been achieved. Also process insight was gathered in the correlation between process operation and batch product quality.

Q-technologies presented the APC on power plants project at the Datang power plant in Hunchun (China). This is the first joined project of IPCOS and Q-Technologies. The head rate of the plant was increased during this project with 0.5%. This was a result of optimization of Primary controls, logic and the installation of an INCA controller. The INCA controller increased the head rate with 0.37% as shown in the slides below. This year more power plants in China will be equiped with INCA controllers.

Johan Reijers proposed the POD based solutions of TNO. Several attendees tried to translate that CFD approach to their environment (combustion, water treatment plants, PE tubular reactors,...).

Filip Peeters (IPCOS) gave a presentation on the Eval Europe APC project on a distillation column. The result of this APC project was significant reduction in steam consumption in combination with a very tight quality control.

Wim Van Brempt closed the Ince User Day with a presentation on future developments regarding Crystalisation, Batch and non linear APC systems.

The next INCA USER DAY will be organise in Q1 2010.
